The .SE country-specific domain name extension was started in 1986 and delegated to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration process was very restrictive, so a very low number of domain names were registered. Persons were allowed to reserve solely one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was compulsory, i.e. merely Swedish individuals, companies and organizations could book a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened a lot and, as a consequence, the number of dot SE domains has been mounting each year.

Currently, anyone can purchase a .SE name, which gives you the chance to get in touch with the Swedish Internet community even if you do not have a local presence.
